What
is a Giclee?
Giclee refers to a new method of creating fine art limited edition
prints. The process begins with a digital high resolution scan of the
original painting. Special software programs are used to manipulate
the attributes of the digitized image, (i.e., color balance, contrast,
brightness, etc.) to achieve the artist's own desired requirements.
The new digitized image is then printed on archival papers with colorfast
archival pigment based inks with a high resolution printer. Finally,
each giclee is signed and numbered, and in most cases a remarque is
added by the artist.
What
is a Serigraph?
Silk-screening, which is also referred to as serigraphy or screen printing.
It is, in essence, a refined version of a hand stenciled process. The
image is divided, by a color, with a screen corresponding to each shade
of ink that will appear on the final surface-paper, canvas, fabric,
etc. The ink is applied to a screen, transferring to the paper only
through the porous segments. A separate screen must be created for
each color. The elements are hand-drawn onto mylar and photographically
exposed onto each screen. Inks are matched to the hues of the original
and custom mixed.
What
is a Remarque?
A remarque is a small vignette image in the margin of a print, often
related thematically to the main image. It is meant as an enhancement
of value and personality. Beacuse each one is done by hand, it is a
small original on each print.
